PINELAND SCHOOL LAUNCHES NEW JOB SHADOWING PROGRAM
Students acquire hands-on experience to prepare for life after graduation

VINELAND, NJ (Jan 19, 2010) – Pineland Learning Center (PLC), a private day-school providing individualized education programs, hosted an orientation to kick off their new Job Shadowing program on Thursday, January 14th.  Melissa Uhniat, senior producer and correspondent for CareerTV, was the keynote speaker.

During the week of January 25th, each of the 26 participating eleventh-graders from Pineland High School will shadow an employee at a local business for a portion of the workday.  Once they have completed their shadowing, they will assess their experiences to determine what skills, values or lessons they gained from the program, and will then share their findings with other Pineland students.

“With unemployment on the rise, it’s important to give students more than just singular job training,” said Lisa Howell, Transition and Career Education Coordinator at Pineland Learning Center.  “In addition to training, our Job Shadowing program is designed to provide valuable work experiences and universal tools that our students will need when they enter the job market upon graduation.”

Each shadowing student completed a survey to assess his or her interests and possible career paths.  Based on the results, each student was then placed with the local business that most closely matched those interests.  Participating companies this year include Best Buy; Lucia’s Restaurant; Limpert Brothers, Inc; Monty’s Auto Body and L.A. Male.  For more information, or to find out how you can become involved in the Pineland Learning Center Job Shadowing program, contact Lisa Howell at 856.378.5020.
