How does my child get to Pineland Learning Center? Who provides transportation?
The sending district will arrange for student transportation to and from school.

What is the length of the school year?
The academic year is 10 months, with an optional 30 day Extended School Year (ESY) available each summer. Click here to view our ESY program.

What types of disciplinary policies are in place?
Pineland Learning Center's behavior management program is considered to be a model program. Students receive incentives for proper behavior and for following rules using a positive behavior support model. In addition, PLC employees are trained, certified and re-certified in non-violent crisis intervention techniques by the Crisis Prevention Institute. How will I know if there are problems with my child at school?
Pineland Learning Center emphasizes mutual cooperation and collaboration with families. We will contact you, and we welcome your inquiries.

Is there job/college placement support?
The Transition program at Pineland Learning Center exposes students to the requirements and responsibilities of specific jobs, assists students in gaining employment skills, and in making career and educational decisions. Is there a work program?
The work program at Pineland Learning Center is a component of the Transition program, called Structured Learning Experiences, designed to provide students with opportunities to develop basic work readiness skills. Students can progress to working at in-school or out-of-school sites based on their individual needs, level of maturity and availability of placements. Can my child come back to district?
Yes, as long as the basic back-to-district requirements are satisfied as generally outlined below. However, criteria may vary by IEP and/or district.

Attendance:   No more than the home district's allowed unexcused absences per year
Academics:   Passing in all subjects, with modified curriculum and accomodations
Behavior:  

No significant discipline infractions for two consecutive marking periods
Appropriately asks for help and demonstrates self control
Has appropriate peer relations and behavior in cooperative group tasks
Appropriately verbalizes feelings
Displays positive attitude toward authority figures
Removes self from conflict situations
Is able to transition between activities and settings
Exhibits appropriate bus behavior
Uses acceptable means to gain attention
Exhibits self control
Has acceptable frustration tolerance
Is able to adequately remain on task

What school will be on the diploma?
Students will receive their official diploma from the sending school district and can participate in the school's graduation ceremony with school district approval. Students will receive a certificate from Pineland Learning Center.

How much do meals cost?
Pineland Learning Center provides appealing, abundant and nutritionally balanced breakfasts and lunches to all students at no additional cost to parents and guardians. Click here to read more about our nutritional philosophy.

Are there uniforms?
Pineland Learning Center takes pride in its appearance and that of our staff and students. Although PLC does not require uniforms, students are expected to observe the following dress code.

Acceptable clothing includes: Pants, slacks, capris and skirts (with arms extended at sides, the bottom of the skirt must touch the fingertips). Shirts/blouses must be long enough to be tucked in and not cut low at the neckline. Pants are not to be worn below the waist. Shorts may be worn when the weather indicates but must be of appropriate length (same rules as applies to skirts). All footwear with laces or fastenings must be properly laced or fastened.

Clothing not acceptable includes: Tank tops, sleeveless T-shirts, cut-off sleeves, cut-off shorts, pants, etc., bare midriffs, bare chests, visible undergarments, gang related insignia or graphics on clothes which imply offensive, obscene, drug/alcohol/sex gestures, slogans, and/or signs, pins, badges, chains, patches, etc., which are deemed offensive by school administration. Sunglasses, hats, headbands, etc. are not permitted.

Will my child be able to participate in sports teams?
Yes, students can play sports for their home district team with district approval.

What school activities are offered?
Pineland Learning Center offers a full range of activities that enable students to get involved with classmates and safely learn about life outside of the school setting. Click here for more information about clubs and activities at PLC. 

Who do I contact with school-related concerns?
Our main office will gladly assist you by directing your inquiry to your child's counselor, teacher or the building principal. Call 856-378-5020, ext. 221 for the Vineland campus, or 856-451-1627 for the Carmel campus.

What vision/hearing/medical services are available?
Pineland Learning Center has a roster of in-house related service providers including an Occupational Therapist, School Nurses, School Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, consulting Pediatricians and other therapeutic interventions as part of our student services.

Do students get report cards?
Yes, progress reports and report cards are each distributed four times a year.

What other school districts send students to Pineland Learning Center?
Approximately 50 school districts throughout southern New Jersey send students to PLC.
