PLC DEDICATES BOAT FOR MARINE SCIENCE STUDIES VINELAND, NJ (October 20, 2008)— Pineland Learning Center (PLC), a private day-school providing individualized education for students from the South Jersey region, dedicated its recently refurbished boat at Hancock Harbor Marina in Greenwich. The 27-foot sailboat was donated by the late Willis C. Allen who had three children attend PLC. Allen died when work on the boat started in 2007. "We provide our students with one-of-a-kind experiences and this restored sailboat offers numerous opportunities for learning outside of the classroom," said Fred Eccleston, Executive Director of PLC. "PLC is grateful for the support and generosity of donors like Allen and all of those who contributed to completing this boat for the benefit of our students." Over 60 students took part in the restoration with over 1,000 hours invested in the project, directed by Norman Lenchitz, Outdoor Education Specialist at PLC. The boat is dedicated to Willis Allen and ready to take out for marine science trips that teach students about boating, navigation, ecology, history, geography, recreational fishing and the Bay Shore area. The sailboat adds to a 25-foot power boat currently in use by PLC. Rick Bacon, assistant at PLC's Outdoor Education Center, is the boat's captain. Pineland Learning Center is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the National Association of Private Special Education Centers.
