Extended School Year

Each year, Pineland Learning Center's 30-day Extended School Year (ESY) Program provides an opportunity for students to maintain academic momentum and focus over the summer months. Students are exposed to a full day of activities from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Vineland campus. The ESY program is specially designed for students in need of:

  • Basic skills reinforcement
  • Practice learning and/or retention of new material
  • A behavior program and socialization skills
  • Speech/language services and/or occupational therapy
  • Credit completion
  • Intense preparation for transition into the next grade

The ESY program offers individualized instruction in basic skills, math and language arts in a thematic, project-based environment, which incorporates New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards. Reading, writing, math, social studies, science and critical thinking skills are incorporated into an annual theme that incorporates environmental science, computer technology, physical education, art and field trips.

Programming includes individual and group counseling for all students, and occupational therapy and speech/language services as needed. Enrollment is extended to students who are not currently attending PLC.

For information on the 2010 ESY at PLC, please call Mary Lou Pierce, Curriculum Supervisor 9-12 at 856-378-5020, ext. 239, or via e-mail at esy@pinelandschool.org.
